The Parent Club Affinity Card Program

Alexander Fraser Draper, Treasurer
 AKC Canine Health Foundation

Summary:

At the very heart of the AKC Canine Health Foundation are the Parents Clubs. It is they who share their breeds needs in health, education and advice on grants. They are the hands that guide the Foundations research.

It is the Foundation's wish to enhance the Parents Clubs Donor Advised Funds. Therefore, a Parent Club Affinity Card program is being developed. The membership of each Parent Club is not large enough to have their own individual Affinity Card. However, under the umbrella of the Foundation's Affinity Card this opportunity exists.

The Foundation is please to announce that is has entered into an agreement with CitiBank to issue an Affinity Card program through Master Card.

Parent Club Affinity Card Program

The Parent Club program is very simple. On each individual's credit card application form there will be a space to identify the name of the breed that will receive credit. The credit that each breed receives will be from $5 to $15. The allocation is based on the number of dogs that are registered with the AKC. The bottom 35 (25 percent) breeds plus newly added breeds will be credited with $15, the middle 50 (35 percent) breeds will be credited with $10 and the top 60 breeds (40 percent) will receive $5 for each dog of that breed that is identified on the credit card application. These monies will be credited to the Donor Advised Funds on a semi-annual basis.

How It Works

Let us, for a moment, look at some examples based on only five percent of each registered breed being identified: The Belgian Sheepdog Donor Advised Fund would be credited $515; Cavalier King Charles Spaniels Donor Advised Fund would credited $3,050 and the Donor Advised Fund of the Labrador Retrievers would be credited with $54,000. There is more potential for each purebred breed to gain revenue in the mixed breed category. Often, when a mixed breed looks like a purebred ancestor, it may be referred as that purebred breed. Bingo, another credit to the Donor Advised Fund. Yes, the potential is great when family and friends support your breed with a Canine Health Foundation Affinity Credit Card.
