How to Apply to the AKC for an ILP (Indefinite Listing Privilege) number:

To get an ILP (Indefinite Listing Privilege) number to do anything but conformation and field work follow this procedure:

• Write to the AKC for a form.
• Fill out the form -- it asks what the history of the dog is, where you got it, why you think it is pure-bred. E.g., a breeder's opinion that the dog is purebred, it was rescued through a breed rescue club, etc.
• Take two pictures of your dog -- one side shot standing, one front shot standing.
• You do not have to have your Spinone neutered. This is required for all dogs that are applying for ILPs except for those in the Miscellaneous class. Otherwise, you would have to include the veterinarian's certificate of neutering with the application.
• Mail the form and pictures along with your check. (include certificate of neutering where applicable)

Currently the fee for the ILP is $10.00

Specific Questions Asked on the form are:

1.  Breed, Full Name of Dog, Sex, Color and Markings, Date of Birth, and Country of Birth.

2.  If dog is registered with a foreign or domestic registry organization, give the registration number and the name and address of the organization.  If dog is not registered, explain why it is not registered.

3.  Dog was acquired directly from (who) on (date).  Give Complete Address.
Also, include the Breeder's Name and Complete Address.

4.  Pedigree of Dog

You must give complete Name of Sire, where it is registered (complete name and address of registry where the sire is registered and its registration number.  The name of the Sire's Sire and the Sire's Dam must also be completed.

Similarly, give the Name of the Dam, the complete name and address of registry where the dam is registered and its registration number.  The name of the Dam's Sire and the Dam's Dam must also be completed.

5.  If neither the dog nor its sire or dam are registered, state your reason(s) for considering the dog to be a pure-bred specimen of its breed.

6.  If the dog is a male, state, to the best of your knowledge, whether it is castrated, or a monorchid or a cryptochid.

7.  If the dog is female, state, to the best of your knowledge, whether it is spayed.

The above conditions (6.&7.) render any dog ineligible to compete in dog shows but do not bar it from competition in Obedience Trials.

You must certify the the information given on the form is true and accurate, that the attached photographs represent the dog for which the ILP is being requested and that you are the actual and legal owner of the dog.  If the ILP is granted, you also must agree to abide by the rules and regulations of the AKC and understand the ILP may be canceled by the AKC at any time for cause.

You (and any co-owner(s)) must sign, date and supply your current address.

Allow 4-6 weeks for the AKC to issue you an ILP.
