MOTIVATING WITH FOOD

Treats are one of the most Popular motivators. If you are working with a stubborn or independent dog, be sure to use treats that have a strong aroma and are highly Palatable. Bits of kibble are not likely to motivate this dog. If your dog turns up its nose at Cheese, hot-dogs or store-bought treats, try the following recipe. Its freshness guarantees a strong aroma.

IRRESISTIBLE HOMEMADE LIVER TREATS

Ingredients

  1. Put liver in food processor and liquefy (To use a blender, cut the liver into cubes and add one-quarter pound at a time.)
  2. Add dry Ingredients and mix well
  3. On greased Cookie sheet, drop 1 tsp. of mixture and flatten with bottom of glass dipped in corn meal.
  4. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes.
  5. Store in freezer until ready to use.

Notes from John Kerr:  Use Beef Liver as opposed to calf's liver it has more aroma.  I usually just spread the batter out in a cookie sheet and then score it with a large knife into about 1/4" cubes before baking, then when its done the little cubes break off into bite sized morsels. (Great size for spitting - for those that know what I mean)
