UPDATE FROM THE AKC

Congratulations SCOA Members

On Friday, February 11, 2000, the AKC officially recognized
the Spinone Club of America as the Parent Club
of the Spinone Italiano breed's entry into the Sporting Group.

Participants in AKC events can use their FSS numbers instead of their ILP. The group status should change from Miscellaneous to Sporting in September, 2000.

The SCOA Officers, Board and Committee members are busy working with the AKC preparing educational material for judges and enthusiasts, we'll keep you posted as these material are developed.

Letter of October 7, 1999

Dear Mr. Channon:

The final review of the Spinone Club of America's records by the registration staff of AKC was completed today. The records were found to be in good condition. The AKC staff accepted the records today.

The records will be entered into the Foundation Stock Service and that process will be completed by November 30, 1999.

The staff's recommendation "...to allow the Spinone to be eligible for registration and compete in the Sporting Group, and any performance event for which they are eligible, effective June 1, 2000" will be presented to the Board of Directors at the January 1999 meeting. Concurrence is required at two consecutive monthly meetings.

Note from Jim: What this means is that we will be dropped from the Miscellaneous Class on June 1, 2000 when we enter the Sporting Group. The number on your FSS certificate that everyone will receive will also be the permanent registration number for your Spinone. You will receive the
permanent registration after June 1.

By a landslide majority the voting Membership accepts the
New Conformation Standard
and agrees to the Parent Club Status
for entry of the Spinone Italiano Breed into the AKC sporting group.

Constitution and By-Laws

While much is still left to be done the major hurdles are over.  We must now submit the foundation stock breed pedigrees to the AKC, develop the Judges Education Packet and await the acceptance before the AKC Board.  We expect this process to occur with the next year.  Watch here for updates to this information.
