I met my first Spinone recently in an airport. She was a young puppy travelling
with her new mom from Boston to Atlanta.She was absolutely beautiful and had the
clearest green eyes I've ever seen on a dog. I was immediately impressed with
her demeanor. I've worked with animals for years and had never even heard of a
Spinone, so I checked out your website. What an awesome breed!

I have been enamored with the breed since searchinng for a companion in 1996. I
did find Archie, a Kerry Blue Terrier, who is marvelous. I have moved from CO to

I am very interested in owning one of these great dogs. I've been researching different breeds, and ever since seeing this breed on TV (Westminster, I have been reading about them and would like to know if anyone in the Pittsburgh, PA area has one/or any clubs around the western PA area. Also, my dream is to get into the "dogworld" somewhere/somehow. Any advise? We have been searching for the right dog for our family and we happened upon the Spinone and it seems perfect for us! One question, how does the Spinone do with an invisible fence? We have restrictions against fencing in our neighborhood, so a conventional fence is not a possibility.

I find it interested that a particular "breeder" is still listed in the SPCOA website and as a member in good standing. I urge everyone searching for a spinone pup to be careful! We got our first spinone from a May 2001 litter (from one of the breeders listed here). The breeder had warned about the pup having an overbite but that he would "outgrow" it. He never did. It was severe and he was never able to pickup a chewy from the floor. Worse, he was diagnosed with ideopathic epilipsy when he was 18 months old. The breeder never returned our calls about either concern. Unfortunately, neither did any of the members of the SPCOA Health Committee when we inquired about epilepsy concerns in the breed. We have the distinct impression that the club didn't want to hear about any of these problems in the breed. Our Guido was a wonderful dog, and if it weren't for being scared to death of getting another pup w/ one of these genetic defects, I would be looking for another one. They truly are magnificent animals. Our beloved Guido was put to sleep in January after battling epilepsy for nearly 4 years. We miss him dearly and hope for the sake of these animals that the breeders and club members will take more of an interest in breeding a healthy and sound Next Generation of Spinones.

You perhaps need more info about you National, what hotel are you using for your headquarters. Perhaps the club would consider having its National in Perry Georgia with the Peach blossom cluster in 2005. We have great facilities and 680 acres of land surrounding the many buildings. Kathleen Steen

Reply to Amy Nutt, I also have a Spinone with epilipsy. I also found it very hard to get people to talk about this in this breed. This is really to bad since my boy is my very best friend and the best dog I haver owned.I also got him from breeders on the list who when told of this claimed to know nothing about this in the breed, I found out otherwise. It`s tobad that for some of the major breeders "for the good of the breed" only means if they can still sell puppies.

I googled to find out more information on Spinonis. I had come accross them in a book on breeds and just couldn't get them out of my head. They are absolutley beautiful and would seem to fit into our family well. I live in Minnesota and can't seem to find a breeder near. I guess I'll keep searching.
