I live i Pavia ( Italy ) , a very old little town in the plane ol the river PO . This is the land in which more than 1000 years ago (there are documents in Longobard documents in the 8th. century ) the Spinone Italiano was breeded. The Spinone Italiano is the " rought " brother of the Bracco Italiano ( Italian Shorthaired Pointer ). I think that the Spinone Italiano Is a perfect dog for working ( hunting but also as a family pet ) inside the variety and large territories and landscapes of all the lands of U.S.A. Wonderful website! Very informative. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Flatcoat Retriever human-companion that has had her heart broken too many times by cancer in the breed. The spunky Spinone seems like a healthy, wire-haired version of the "Peter Pan" Flatie. Spinone's are so-o-o-o happy and loving! I'm very much into rescue/older dogs, so I'll be contacting the California rescue coordinator in the near future. If she thinks I'm a good companion-candidate, I know I'll hardly be able to wait for a Spinone to share my life and home at the beach!

Outstanding website! I've been around sporting dogs all my life. I currently own Golden Retrievers and it's time to start thinking about my next puppy. But the health problems in my breed are scaring me away. I really like everything I have learned so far about the Spinone. I've read of the breed in Gun Dog and recently watched a show about it on Animal Planet. A very interesting breed, and that from a guy that now owns a Drahthaar, but had a Brit before that. Please keep the breed standards up, we Americans have been known to mess a breed.

Could anyone tell me how much the Spinone sheds? I have read that they need to be brushed once a week. My son has asthma and I would prefer a dog that sheds very little. Everything about the Spinone seems perfect for our family. A dog that is good with children and can retrieve is of the utmost importance.

Do you have adoptions for Spimone's, or even foster care? We are parent's that have a special needs child who LOVES dogs. We have a short hair Collie, who adores our daughter. We have always had at least 2 dogs at a time. We have 1/4 of an acre, which is fenced in. We are very active with our pets. We have lots and lots of love to give. We would like to adopt a puppy. Seems like a wonderful dog. I have been around dogs my entire life. I have been owned by 3 Irish Setters, a Black Lab., a German Shep., 4 Blue Mountain Shepards -a breed native to the Missouri Ozarks, and several other "tramps". Each stole my heart away, one way or another. But I have never found that "all around dog" I always wanted. ( I have a secret love of the "underdog" such as the Cumberland Span. and the Black Mouth Cur. I believe that I have found what I was looking for in the Spinone. I first came across this breed when I was visiting family in Illinois.I immediately fell in love with the soft eyes and "old man" face. Then not to long ago I saw the Spinone on Animal Planet and have been curious about this breed ever since. Your site is very informative. This is the best and most informative site I have seen on any breed. I have been doing extensive research on several breed's, and because of much criteria that had to be met, we are going to get a Spinone and are very excited about it! With our special needs child, allergy concerns, wanting a dog that did well socially and loved the water, and not wanting to much of a shedder as well as other concerns, we needed a very, very, special dog. The Spinone is the dog I feel is the best of all the breeds for our family concerns!!! By the way I have been researching breeds for about 1 1/2 years now.

Hi, I'm Barbara and I live in Milan, Italy. Two mounths ago I found a very old white Spinone (I think about 13 years)chained to a tree. He was in terrible conditions!!!! Now he is with me and with my family. His name is Salvo, wich in Italy is a name that means "safe", and I'm fond of him, I'm crazy for him!!!! He is so sweet and lovely, a special dog. I don't know how to clean his ears, his eyes and especially his hairs. So I was very happy to find some info about this breed in your web-site. Thank you!!!!! Barbara
