Very well done webpage--engaging and informative. I saw a couple of Spinoni in Italy a two years ago, and was quite taken with them. I have three Golden Retrievers who are companions and hunting dogs, but two of them are twelve now, and as I, too, age, the slow and steady Spinone sounds as if it might be the gundog of the future for me. Are their any breeders in the Central States (between Denver and Kansas City, Oklahoma City and Lincoln, Nebraska) or any shows in that area where one could see spinoni in the flesh?

I was happy to find this site. My husband and I would like to get a Spinone. We have a book on dog breeds and fell in love with the Spinone. They are sooo cute, and see like the have a great temperment. I would like to know of breeders in the New York metro area, or any breeders that have or are expecting a litter. Thanks. great insight into this breed. loved the clear photos but would like to see some comparisons of personality traits with more common breeds...such as gentle as a golden , silly as a boxer, etc. ok thats that. thank you.

I logged onto this site in search of specific information. I am thinking of placing a male Norfolk terrier in a home with a two year old, as yet un-neutered male Spinone.i realize the potential for problems. Curious question for those of you who have purchased (or plan to purchase) a pup from the cerebellar ataxia carrier lines, have you paid the full price for your Spinone that hopefully was sold on a spay/neuter contract with no breeding to be done UNTIL a DNA test for determinining if your Spinone has CA. As supposedly these breeders are selling only as pet quality (or so they say) not to be breed and to be spayed/neutered, you should not be paying top dollar for this Spinone. One CA breeder bragged that she was selling hers for $1500 because people thought they were getting more if they were paying more. She is right, they may very well be a carrier of that deadly CA gene!, so they are getting more, but not more good to justify the higher price. But if you are paying more than the "going rate" for your defective gene Spinone, the breeder has taken advantage of your gullibility. Ask questions, questions and shop around before buying. As one of the SCOA members said, if these breeders are continuing to breed for only their greed (and that must be what it is if they are selling only pet quality, spay/neuter pups), why are they breeding except for greed, definitely not to benefit the Spinone breed.

Loved this breed for a decade! Am acquainted with two quasi-local MA breeders, but have 2 rescue dogs: Border Terrier from breeder & LH Mini Dachsie (AKA Teckel of Terror) from Pet Pals Conn. Have coveted white-orange & white-orange roan IS for years!! Sorry there was such a small entry at ARBA in DC, but I understand that the National Specialty takes precedence. Hugs to Ice from Buffalo! Will follow the ataxia issue avidly. Spinoni & BTs are a perfect big-little dog combo, esp. with a strip-free BT!

We have a wonderful 2 1/2 year old spinoni, Sadie. I can't say enough good things about the breed. Very loving and friendly. Not a mean bone in their body. She loves to hunt and especially enjoys just being with the family. Hope to get another one soon!!!
