We'd like to introduce ourselves. We live in a suburb of Chicago on 3/4 of an acre. Its a small community with plenty of dog lovers. In fact, we are surrounded!! Our introduction to the Spinone was made at the back fence. Our neighbor owns, shows and breeds Irish Wolfhounds. She was just at a rare breed show in Chicago and saw the "neatest" dog. After owning one I have corrected her misuse of the word "neatest"! "A Spinone, a what " I said? And yes, as much as I hate to admit it the way I remembered the name of the breed was by using the Spumoni word association!! She knew we were looking for a big dog (not Wolfhound big), low maintenance, good with kids and other critters. She also knew I was a sucker for a "pretty" face!! I called AKC for a name of a breeder. They gave me the Channon's number. I called Maxine immediately and we had a lengthy informative phone conversation. She sent me tons of info on the breed. Gave us a list of people to call. I was amazed at how eager Spinone people were to talk to about their experiences. Scott S. offered to met us with his Henri. After seeing her , I was hooked. Luckily, about that time the info line was set up on the Internet and I was able to converse with a lot of Spinone owners. It was invaluable to me. We me a lot of Spinone at the '97 meeting in Madison. We were delighted to meet so many interesting dog people. They graciously let us pick their brains and patiently answered our unending questions! At that point Dale was hooked on this breed. Saggia was born on June 1st. We picked her up on her 49th day at the Channon's Pond. It was a wonderful experience. I hope to start showing Saggia soon. I really liked the puppy obedience class we were in and will try her in the Obedience ring. I might give Conformation a whirl at the Annual Meeting in Ky. this year. She is an excellent student and so willing to please.

Having Saggia become a therapy dog is something I feel strongly about.I think it would be such a rewarding way to spend a day. I admire what these people and their dogs are doing. I would like to share some joy with those people who may be going through some difficult times in their lives. I can't think of too many things that can compare with a Spinone kiss, hug or compassionate look.It always makes me feel better!! |
