What is a NAVHDA Breeder's Award?
From Versatile Hunting Dog, Jan. '98, Vol.29 No.1
The NAVHDA Breeder's Award is an award that honors breeders who have their litters
Natural Ability tested. It lets the pointing dog world know breeders who are
committed to the NAVHDA testing program. A NAVHDA breeder's award requires the
progeny to be successful at testing. Only by testing can a breeder evaluate the
success of the breeding program.
The following criteria must be met to qualify for the NAVHDA Breeder's Award:
- Breeder must be a member of NAVHDA. Or if co-owned, one of the owners must be a NAVHDA
member.
- The producing dam must be NAVHDA registered.
- The litter(s) must be registered simultaneously under the breeder's kennel name (if
any). Single registrations will not be eligible for a breeder's award.
- The litter registration must have occurred prior to the puppies being Natural Ability
tested.
- At least four pups from one litter must qualify with a minimum point total of 360 points
in the natural ability tests. The litter does not need to be tested at the same
time, nor all be tested in one year. However, the dog must be under 16 months.
- Pups that are gun-shy, temperament shy or noted as aggressive towards people are not
eligible for a breeder's award.
