Spinone Dictionary

SPINONE   One wire haired Italian bird dog
SPINONI   Many wire haired Italian bird dogs
NOSE   1. A large Spinone organ
  2. The ability to find game by using a sense of smell as in "My dog has a great nose but is not yet staunch on point." When not hungry, Spinoni use this talent to determine the contents of cans of food, which then they proceed to open (One way we accidentally found to make this adventure less appealing is to make certain there are soda cans available for the dog's first experiments. The sound and spray of soda when the can is punctured should discourage future attempts.)

POISON  CONTROL  NUMBER

Given the size of your puppy's mouth and its tendency to approach the world through taste and smell you'll need these: 1-900-680-0000 (have your charge card read,) and 1-800-548-2123.

TUNNELING

A Spinone digging routine. This is a vestigial behavior left from the short period when Spinoni, because of their powerful frame, notable tracking ability and impressive bark, were used in penal colonies to watch minimum security prisoners. Unfortunately this breed's gregariousness and trainability were underestimated by the guards but not by the prisoners who quickly taught them to dig long, deep, narrow holes. Although the project was quickly terminated the habit can be noted in the breed today.

ME ME

A lingual derivative of ME! ME! Especially noted in the company of other dogs receiving attention.

WIGGLY  BUTT

Coined by Lena Amirian with Sunrise as the definitive prototype, this phrase describes perfect!, the Spinoni's style of joie-de-vivre and is the baseline mental state of well socialized, healthy male and neutered female Spinoni. Intact females enjoy their prerogative of moodiness as well

GRIZZLY LIPS

An anatomical construction formed bit a large loose lower lip that can be relaxed at will Usually an expression of pique, a form of "biting one's lip".

W.C. FIELDS  FACE

A variant of "Grizzly Lips", -actually- one-half a grizzly lip. The end product looks only ajar to be complete.

BEARD

An evolutionary adaptation similar to the camel's hump capable of storing up to 1 litre of water (less of mud) at each drinking. Unfortunately the drought in Italy ended before the evolution was complete and unlike the camel's hump, the beard leaks. While this might be considered a disadvantage by some, the Spinoni have learned to use this situation to satisfy the breed's urge for "cleanliness" (which we all read about in the earl! Spinoni literature) by "cleaning" the floor, the table, your clothes, etc. with this adapted organ.

SLIMED

An affectionate adverb used -frequently- by Spinoni owners, which cannot be appreciated until experienced. Note that drooling is NOT a prerequisite. See '`Beard".

TOWEL

The number one item in the Spinoni Tool Kit

WOULD  I   TRADE  IT

A phrase often contemplated -by- Spinoni owners but always followed by "NEVER"!
